What Are the Dangers of Heroin Abuse?

Heroin addiction is a serious opioid use disorder that can affect physical health, mental well-being, relationships, and daily life. Professional treatment can help people manage withdrawal, reduce cravings, and build long-term recovery skills. With medical support, therapy, and a personalized care plan, recovery from heroin addiction is possible.

Our Approach to Heroin Addiction Treatment

At New Growth Recovery, heroin addiction treatment starts with stabilization. Since heroin withdrawal can be severe, we connect patients with a trusted detox partner first, then bring them into our heroin addiction rehab once they’re medically stable.

From there, heroin addiction treatment is built around the individual. Each patient gets a care plan based on their health history, the severity of their addiction, and any co-occurring mental health conditions, with regular check-ins and adjustments as they progress. Care runs across the full continuum, from Extended Day Treatment (PHP) through Day Treatment (IOP), virtual options, and aftercare.

The clinical work combines proven therapies like CBT and DBT with individual, group, and family sessions, alongside holistic supports like trauma-informed yoga and animal-assisted therapy. Dual diagnosis care is part of every heroin addiction rehab plan, not a separate service, which matters, since heroin addiction so often goes hand in hand with anxiety, depression, or trauma.

Your First Week in Heroin Rehab

Getting started is simple. Depending on your program needs, your first week can look different, but it typically involves:

  • Completing intake and comprehensive assessments
  • Meeting your treatment team to start your tailored plan
  • Beginning individual and group therapy sessions
  • Learning coping skills for managing anxiety and cravings
  • Connecting with family support and wellness activities
  • Building your foundation for long-term recovery

Why Choose New Growth Recovery for Heroin Addiction Treatment?

Heroin rehab is hard-won, and it matters who you trust to help with it. New Growth Recovery is a JCAHO Gold Seal-accredited and LegitScript-certified treatment center for addiction, reflecting a real standard of clinical care behind the heroin rehab program.

That care is delivered by licensed clinicians who specialize in addiction and the mental health conditions that so often come with it. Our content and treatment for heroin addiction approaches are medically reviewed, and our team has genuine expertise rather than a generic script. The whole heroin addiction program is built on a simple principle – “where growth meets recovery”.

Heroin rarely travels alone, so our drug addiction treatment extends across related substances too, including cocaine addiction help and a dedicated fentanyl addiction treatment program.

FAQs About Heroin Treatment

How do I know if I need heroin addiction treatment?

You may need heroin addiction treatment if heroin use is affecting your health, relationships, work, school, finances, or daily responsibilities. Common signs include cravings, withdrawal symptoms, failed attempts to stop, increased tolerance, secrecy, and continued use despite negative consequences.

Do I need detox before starting heroin rehab?

Some people need medically supervised detox before beginning a structured treatment program. Detox helps stabilize the body during withdrawal, while rehab focuses on therapy, coping skills, relapse prevention, and long-term recovery. New Growth Recovery can help determine the right level of care and connect clients with trusted detox support when needed.

Is heroin withdrawal dangerous?

Heroin withdrawal can be physically and emotionally difficult, and symptoms may increase the risk of relapse without support. Professional care can help people manage withdrawal more safely, reduce discomfort, and transition into ongoing treatment.

Do you offer virtual programs?

Yes. Our online program includes secure telehealth services with therapy and groups.

What types of therapy help with heroin addiction?

Therapy for heroin addiction may include individual counseling, group therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, relapse-prevention work, family support, and treatment for co-occurring mental health conditions. The goal is to address both substance use and the underlying patterns that can keep addiction active.

Do you treat dual diagnosis?

Yes. We treat mental health conditions like anxiety and PTSD alongside benzodiazepine dependence.

Is detox the same as rehab?

No. Detox stabilizes your body. Rehab builds coping skills and prevention strategies to promote lifelong sobriety.

Will treatment affect my work or school?

Flexible scheduling in our outpatient programs lets you continue other life commitments.

How soon can I start?

Same-day and next-day assessments are available at our Springfield, MA, location.
